Hi everyone. I have a late 80s 88hp Evinrude SPL mounted on an OLD 15' Arrow Glass tri-hull fishing boat. I installed a tach and speedo and am a little disapointed with the readings. I am just barely getting 5000 rpms, if that, at WOT. And aren't even hitting 30mph (Its more like 25-28).. Adam friedland chris cuomo

Well a mechanic figured out my idle problem. Seems that the fuel primer/enrichment solenoid was shot and was pumping gas into the carb all the time. What did you lube it with if whatever you put on it could be sticking it down. If the starter is spinning probably an issue with the bendix even a slow spinning starter can kick the bendix up. May 12, 2009. #1. i have a 1988 johnson 88 spl outboard just did a compression check looking from the back of the boat both top cylinders are at 121 psi the right lower is at 116 the left lower is at 119 is this all normal boat runs great just figured i would do a compression test i hate doing them but please let me know it those sound good. Re: Evinrude 88 SPL overheating (pics) Water going through while running on the muffs doesn't mean a darn thing. You can't test a water pump on muffs. Hose pressure is forcing water up through the engine, not the water pump. The water pump should be the FIRST thing to look at whenever there is any sign of overheating.Feb 15, 2007 · Joined. I purchased the boat without physically inspecting the boat prior to purchase and had someone pick the boat up for me. I assumed it the motor had power trim and tilt.
