If you think it might be a rod bearing, pull the filter cut it open, unroll the filter media and take a look for metal, you can also order an oil sample kit, take the sample send it in and it will also tell the tale, if its a bearing. If it ain't broke don't fix it.It is important to find the sweet spot where you can get the most clearance. Running a string around each rod helps you align the rods as you lower the crank in.
